A note from us

We know that a wedding in the British Virgin Islands is going to make it hard for many of our dear friends & family to attend. We completely understand if you are unable to make the trip, but we look forward to celebrating with you when we get back! It has been a dream of ours to get married here in our favorite place, surrounded by the people we love most. More details to come soon, and we hope to see you there! xoxo James & Emily

FAQs

How do I get to the British Virgin Islands?

Travel includes flying into St. Thomas (USVI) and then entering the British Virgin Islands.

Once you have made it to USVI your options are:

Ferry to Tortola: Fly into St. Thomas (STT) and board a ferry to Tortola. Short taxi transfer to Long Bay Beach Resort.

Private Water Taxi: Fly to St. Thomas (STT) and enjoy a private water taxi direct to the West End of Tortola, just around the corner from Long Bay Beach Resort.

Air: Fly into Beef Island (EIS) and taxi to Long Bay Beach Resort.

What is the easiest itinerary for travel into the B.V.Is?

If you are flying into ST. Thomas the best time to arrive is early afternoon if you are planning to continue on to the B.V.I.s in the same day.

If your flight arrives later than 2:30 pm we suggest staying overnight in St. Thomas as a great alternative, and leaving the next day fully open to take the Tortola ferry.

Example Travel Route:

1) Fly into St. Thomas airport (STT) in the U.S. Virgin Islands

2) Take a 10-minute taxi to Charlotte Amalie ferry dock.

3) Ferry to Tortola

*In all cases we recommend contacting the ferry terminal directly to pre-book tickets. We find that no matter where you are (USVI or BVI) everyone is on island time!

- Ferry Option 1: Take the Road Town Fast Ferry and enjoy a 1-hour scenic ride over to Road Town, Tortola. The ferry runs regularly but the last departure each day is usually around 3:30 PM, so you’ll need to check the Charlotte Amalie to Road Town ferry schedule and be sure you choose a flight that is scheduled to arrive at least 1.5 hours prior to the ferry departure.

- Ferry Option 2: Take a ferry to West End, Tortola. The ferry runs regularly but the last departure each day is also usually around 3:30 PM, so you’ll need to check the Charlotte Amalie to West End ferry schedule and be sure you choose a flight that is scheduled to arrive at least 1.5 hours prior to the ferry departure.

NOTE: If you are staying at Long Bay Beach Resort (West End, Tortola), ferry option 2 is closer to your destination.

4) Upon arrival in Tortola you can take a taxi or shuttle to your lodging.

This travel option is typically a little longer in total time, but much more cost effective than flying into Beef island.

Ferry Travel Tips

- Passport is required for travel between BVI and USVI
- Ferry companies accept credit cards but do recommend having cash.
- Reservations are not required for ferry travel, but we recommend contacting the ferry service for the most accurate schedule.
- Taxis are available at the ferry terminal on both Tortola and ST. Thomas.
- No car rental companies are stationed at the ferry docks in West End, Tortola but by making reservations rental companies will meet you at the ferry terminal and process your rental on site.

What is the easiest itinerary for travel out of the B.V.Is?

If you are flying out of ST. Thomas the best time to plan a flight out is late afternoon, after 2:00 pm. The customs lines are typically very busy, most airlines require you to check in 2-3 hours before your flight departure time when leaving STT.

If your flight is early we suggest staying overnight in St. Thomas the night before as a great alternative so you don't have any issues coming through customs/ferry cancellations.

What do I need to enter the British Virgin Islands?

A valid passport and Driver's license.

*Credit cards are widely accepted but cash is always preferred.

How do I get around Tortola?

We recommend taking a taxi to get around the island, We don't recommend renting a car unless you're staying for a week or are staying with a large group! The winding roads and steep hills can be quite overwhelming with the fast drivers on-island...Taxis are easily accessible, and present less of a liability than renting a car in a foreign country.

What type of currency is accepted in the B.V.I.s?

US dollars are accepted in each of the British Virgin Islands. Though most major credit cards are widely accepted, the preferred method of payment in the islands is cash. In our experience, ATMs are not readily available so please prepare accordingly!

Do I have to be vaccinated?

At this time entry requirements for the BVI are the same for all travelers, regardless of COVID-19 vaccination status.

As of July 15, 2022 you do not need to provide proof of your vaccination status and there are no testing or quarantine requirements on arrival to the BVI.

More information

While we understand 10 am seems quite early to begin an excursion the morning after our celebration, White Bay is simply something that everyone should experience when visiting!

Jost Van Dyke offers something for everyone; relaxing on the beach with a book, hammocks in the shade, snorkeling in the crystal blue water.

Most importantly, it's home of the Pain Killer! The correct concoction of premium dark rum, cream of coconut, pineapple and orange juice (proportions are secret), topped with fresh grated Grenadian nutmeg makes the swim to the Soggy Dollar worth the effort. We hope you can join us!
